For Your Marriage

You’re not bad at marriage. Your nervous system is running the show.

When conflict escalates, the part of your brain responsible for empathy goes offline, you literally cannot repair from that state. Until you understand why the spiral happens, “just communicate better” will keep failing you.

Everything On This Path

Start free. Go deeper when you’re ready.

One step at a time, in order. You never have to take the next one until it’s actually the next one.

The Pattern

Let’s decode the spiral.

Flooding. Your heart rate spikes, stress hormones surge, and the reasoning, empathizing part of your brain goes offline. From that state, every word your spouse says sounds like a threat, because to your nervous system, it is one.

The pursuer–withdrawer cycle. One of you moves toward the conflict to feel safe again; the other moves away from it for the same reason. Each response makes the other’s worse. Nobody is the villain here, you’re two nervous systems protecting themselves in opposite directions.

Unfinished repair. The fight ends, but nothing closes. The hurt gets filed instead of resolved, and filed hurt compounds.

Resentment isn’t a character flaw. It’s unfinished repair. If you’ve had the same fight twice, you don’t have a communication problem, you have unfinished repair.
