Restoring Dignity

No child should carry their life in a trash bag.

When a kid is moved from one home to another, somebody hands them a garbage sack for everything they own. In the worst hour of their week, the message underneath that bag is unmistakable, and children hear it clearly.

Why This One

Dignity is not a small thing.

Joy Restored exists because of a conviction that what happened to you matters, and that it does not get to name you. A child on a porch holding a garbage bag is being told the opposite, wordlessly, at the exact moment they are least able to argue with it.

A duffle will not undo the removal or shorten the wait. What it does is refuse to add one more message to the pile, in a language a seven-year-old can read without anybody explaining it. This is not a side project. It is the same conviction, aimed at somebody who cannot yet do anything about theirs.

What happened to you matters. It just doesn’t get to name you.

What’s Inside

A bag worth keeping.

Every Go Bag is a real duffle, not a promotional tote, sturdy enough to survive several moves. Inside are the things that get forgotten in a hurry: a blanket, basic toiletries, socks, a stuffed animal for the younger ones, a journal and pen for the older ones, and a note that tells them somebody packed this on purpose.

Joy Restored is part of the SageFire Collective family of centers, a registered 501(c)(3). Gifts are processed through SageFire Collective and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Questions about giving? Write to hello@joyrestored.com.

Joy Restored is not a licensed placement agency. Go Bags are distributed through the caseworkers and agencies already doing the hard part.
